Building Success

Eric Owen’s history as a technician goes back a few decades when he started with Kodak as a trainee technician in Brisbane, Australia. After six years at Kodak, he moved to Hanimex and held the position of senior technician there for 11 years. After leaving Hanimex Eric went into business for himself and it didn’t take too long for him to build up a large client base of professional photographers keen to use his expertise. He has now been successfully in business for the last 24 years.

He has a passion for precision engineering and says that he “loves a challenge”.

“ My hobby is making machinery and a lot of the equipment in my workshop has been designed by myself, including the tooling.

In 1977 I was asked to design a Studio Camera Stand which was first displayed at the Hypo ‘77 show on the Gold Coast, here in Australia. In 1979 this product won an Australian Design Award and also went on to win the Prince Phillip Prize for Australian design in 1980. In 1982 it was one of the finalists for the State Premier’s award for industry.”
